COPPA / BJLP Policy

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 2000 is an act created to protect the privacy of children (under the age of 13). Because this site is dedicated to children of all ages, we have taken measures to fully comply with this act.

The following simply states that we MUST have permission from a parent to include any identifiable information of a child (under the age of 13) on this site (including your child's full name and location). Please read the following information carefully, and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. My full contact information is at the bottom of this page.

Site Purpose

This site is dedicated to a general auidence including children under the age of 13. The material found in this site is "family oriented" and targets youth (under the age of 18) that have an interest in showing livestock as well as their parents and family. There are sections to this site (i.e. the BJLP Forum, Photo Galley, etc.) where user submitted information is stored. Every effort is being made to monitor this information to keep it "age appropriate". Photos that are submitted for the Photo Gallery are approved by an administrator before they are posted. There are designated moderators in the BJLP Forum that monitor the posts and inappropriate content is removed as soon as possible.

Gathered Information

Some of the photos that are used in the Photo Gallery are submitted by Ag teachers, extension agents and others. None of these pictures contain indentifiable information about any child. If you would like to include indentifiable information about your child (if he/she is under the age of 13), you must first send in the Parental Consent form, which can be found at http://www.bamajlp.com/consent_form.html.

The cookies that are stored for the forum's use allow the user to login. These cookies may contain private information such as your name (if entered at the forum registration) and your email address. This information is ONLY used to login and participate in the forum. It will be used for NO other purpose. During the Forum registration process, a user must declare that he/she is exactly 13 or over 13. This is to prevent underage users from registering without a parent's consent.

Any winners or others that are posted on this site, if they are under the age of 13, must submit a Parental Consent form, which can be found at http://www.bamajlp.com/consent_form.html, in order to include their full names, location or any other identifiable information. (I.e. John Smith, Grand Champion Market Steer, Chambers Co.) Photos, information and other data submitted will be shown on this site with the appropriate permissions. This information will not be given directly by us to any third party.

Any child under the age of 13 will not be required to disclose more information than is reasonably necessary to participate in an activity as a condition of participation.

All parents have the right to review the child's personal information, ask to have it deleted and refuse to allow any further collection or use of the child's information.

Revoking & Deleting

At any time, a parent may revoke his/her consent, refuse to allow this site to further use or collect their child's personal information, and direct the adminsitrator to delete the information. In turn, this site may terminate any service provided to the child, but only if the information at issue is reasonably necessary for the child's participation in that activity. For example, we may require children to provide their email addresses to participate in a chat room so we can contact a youngster if he/she is misbehaving in the chat room. If, after giving consent, a parent asks us to delete the child's information, we may refuse to allow the child to participate in the chat room in the future. If other activities on the Web site do not require the child's email address, we will allow the child access to those activities.

Parental Consent is NOT required to do the following:

  • to collect a child's or parent's email address to provide notice and seek consent
  • to collect an email address to respond to a one-time request from a child and it is immediately deleted
  • to collect an email address to respond more than once to a specific request -- say, for a subscription to a newsletter. In this case, we will notify the parent that we are communicating regularly with the child and we will give the parent the opportunity to stop the communication before sending or delivering a second communication to a child
  • to collect a child's name or online contact information to protect the safety of a child who is participating on the site. In this case, we will notify the parent and give him or her the opportunity to prevent further use of the information
  • to collect a child's name or online contact information to protect the security or liability of the site or to respond to law enforcement, if necessary, and we will not use it for any other purpose
  • Verifiable Parental Consent

Due to the technology today, an email giving permission is NOT considered verifiable parental consent. Please CLICK HERE (http://www.bamajlp.com/consent_form.html) to fill out, print and sign the Parental Consent Form. This form MUST be faxed, hand-delivered or mailed via postal mail. If permission is given and for some reason the information will be used in a different manner, then the parent will be contacted and new permission must be given.

Thank you for taking the time to read all of this. I know it might sound a little scary, but we want to take every precaution to protect our children. It is important that you as a parent know what information is being shared by your child and where that information is being shared. We will make every effort possible to keep your child's information protected and only use what information is necessary and in an appropriate manner.
